Day out in Suffolk

Day out in Suffolk

Suffolk is the place to just let your feet loose and enjoy a day out with your family and friends. The province offers a glut of activities and attractions for the family to enjoy; the best part is that they are all set within the countryside.

Jimmy’s Farm

Jimmy’s Farm is a great place to hang out for kids and adults alike. The place features a serene nature trail, a farm shop, a coy café, an adventure playground and a woodland walk. The place is shrouded in greenery, thanks to the numerous lush gardens including a vegetable garden, herb garden and a butterfly house. Entry to the farm house is free, you are charged only for the nature trail that too is nominal at £3.50 for adults and £2.50 for children. Another option is to head out to Flatford, a quaint precinct on the river Stour. Here you can visit the ‘Flatford Boats’ and rent a rowing boat, and go on a sightseeing tour of the countryside. It’s probably the best way to take in the serene views and see the ducks and swans in their natural habitats. There are no time limits for the hire and you can stay in the water as long as you like, people are known to have rented boats for 8 hrs straight! A popular itinerary is to row up to Dedham where there is a docking stage to moor the boat. Once there you can have lunch and wash it down it with the famed luscious ice-cream. The return journey will be a lot easier as the current is on your side and gently takes you back to Flatford.

Train Attractions

Suffolk is home to numerous train attractions that are sure to enchant the smallest child to the most ardent train enthusiast. Castle Hedingham features a jewel of an attraction in the form of Colne Valley Railway. The site is open only on weekends and holidays; it is an enchanting precinct featuring old steam engines, working signal box and a beautiful garden railway. Thomas the Tank Engine visits here and there are also frequent dining events organized in this place. Bessingham Steam was the resultant of Alan Bloom’s desire to merge his love for gardens and steam. The place conjures up a truly exhilarating experience for all family. Bessingham is also the only place where you can enjoy the official “Dad’s Army” exhibition.

Thrill Rides

You can’t beat a theme park in rendering a thrill filled day and this makes Pleasurewood Hills one of Suffolk’s top tourist attractions. Wipeout is one of the latest additions to the white knuckle rides and is not for the faint hearted. For people who prefer more sedate mode of entertainment there is a miniature railway and vintage car ride. Nestled between the rides are numerous other entertainments and lion shows.
